So Annoying

Katy is so annoying. She cusses, but can’t catch on to Daemon liking her? She’s immature but also smart? It’s not enjoyable at all because of how stupid the main female character is. I’m really getting tired of these books with docile females that act so clueless. The whole “whoa it’s me” act she has, even until the end, is just miserable and pitiful. She is constantly pushing him away and then playing the victim. Smh sick of it.

This book is so freaking good. It has so much depth it’s not rainbows and butterflies I love that throughout the books you can see the characters develop themselves. Especially Dee all I could think was wow this is no longer first book Dee, as I kept reading I fell in love with daemon sorry if I misspelled by the way, I’ll dream of you even though you love Katy insert sad face, I love these books finished the serious I’m a week yeay covid jk

I Can’t Believe I Never Saw This Sooner

This book SUCKED me in. It wasn’t your normal “vampire next door” ridiculous teen romance novel. The character development in this is phenomenal. You see how the characters change and morph each other into almost completely different people. It shows how someone can alter the course of your future and bring out sides of you that you didn’t know existed. Someone hard and withdrawn isn’t always who you think they are. Someone who has experienced trauma or death isn’t the same as others and its a touching example of how you can connect with someone who has experienced sadness or loss like you have. The supernatural aspect of it is alluring, yes, but its Daemon and Katy that make the book what it is. Katy’s character is so much more different than “normal” teen supernatural novels. She’s snarky, honest, kind and even vulgar at times. She has a voice. She isn’t a damsel in distress. Shes strong minded and willful and i admire the author for allowing her to blossom as the main character should. Daemon is troubled and lost and so overcome with the stress of being the protector that he cannot be himself. *spoiler* When he let Katy in about Dawson and shared with her things that he probably hadn’t talked about with anyone, at least for a while, we as readers can all relate to that. He needed someone to talk to. We can’t all be strong all the time. Sometimes its easier to talk with someone who is more of a stranger than someone we are really close to. In closing, the author did a wonderful job with this book. Im going to buy the second one immediately. Ive played both on Chapters but when I found there were more books in the series I needed to read them all. Off to Onyx!

This was an enjoyable beginning to the series. I found the characters easy to like. The premise was unique & interesting with some events a little difficult to imagine at times. Reading the pet name “kitten” for the heroine got tiresome but all in all I will read book #2.

I really enjoyed this book! At first, I wasn't pulled into the story right away. I thought Katy and Daemon's relationship was super annoying. But somewhere in the middle of the book, when all the action started, I was pulled in and couldn't stop reading. The characters grew on me, and now I'm really itching to buy the next book in series, stay up, and read it!

An Enjoyable 4/5

This story starts out with Katy. She’s a teenager, a book blogger, and has just moved to a small secluded town. There, she comes across her neighbors, Dee and her twin brother Daemon. Dee and Katy become fast friends, but Daemon has some animosity towards Katy that she doesn’t quite understand. She hasn’t done anything to deserve his immediate contempt, but he’s still rude to her every time they talk. However, Katy doesn’t know everything about the next door twins, and the secret she uncovers about them might lead to immense danger, and also a possible romance with her new best friend’s jerk of a brother, Daemon (oooooh ahhhhhh). So. If you're fond of YA literature, you must've read Twilight. Or at least seen the movies (though how can you compare the books and the movies, COME ON !?) If you have, this book is going to be a trip down memory lane for sure. The amount of Twilight nostalgia I felt while reading this book was unpredictable. Of course I'd heard about the similarities between this book series and Twilight before reading it, but the amount of connections that exist are wild. That being said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with these similarities. In fact, I enjoyed this book a ton because of them. Obsidian was fast paced and gripping, and each chapter ended in a way where I wanted to keep on reading. And there was a sarcastic protagonist, something Twilight lacks with Bella, and a complex (AND HOT) love interest, who maintains Edward’s charm without blowing everything out of proportion. Unlike Twilight’s main couple who are dependent on each other instantly, the possible relationship here is a lot more natural feeling, which I appreciated a lot. Just, if you're going to read this, don't be surprised that the events and characters follow a similar structure as Twilight does, though they are also very different in terms of the world and specific events that transpire - and it's actually a good thing. Jennifer L. Armentrout has created an amazing world with great characters. Yes some may say that the similarities to Twilight make this book lesser, I’d counter that it makes the book even more enjoyable to read. Especially in a period after you’ve just read another book series and need a filler before your next endeavor. It’s perfect for that. Now, I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just leave it by saying that I loved this book for the same reason I loved Twilight: it transports you to a different world. And I read for the escapism, so I loved the reading experience immensely. Overall, I'd give it a 4/5. Is it the best thing I've read ever? No. But was it entertaining as hell? Yes. And I loved the direction went in at the end. Maybe I'll invest in the rest of the series, I'm not sure yet. But I say go ahead and buy the first book, you won't be disappointed. Happy Reading.

I did not expect to enjoy this book so much. Its such a good story and i like her writing (its like i am reading a fanfiction story from wattpad tbh, in a good way). Her writing isnt that great or amazing. Its just okay. I would recommend this to people who love aliens, actions, romance, and can tolerate jerks! I am looking forward to read the 2nd book soon :)

Ok so I don't usually write reviews for books but I must say this book was extremely good. I absolutely loved the plot. Very original and unique. This is honestly is the first book I have ever read about with aliens and I highly recommend it. The characters were funny and lovable and the relationship between daemon and Katy was very believable. I liked how they acted like two teenagers would act if they secretly liked each. All in all very god read!

So Annoying

Katy is so annoying. She cusses, but can’t catch on to Daemon liking her? She’s immature but also smart? It’s not enjoyable at all because of how stupid the main female character is. I’m really getting tired of these books with docile females that act so clueless. The whole “whoa it’s me” act she has, even until the end, is just miserable and pitiful. She is constantly pushing him away and then playing the victim. Smh sick of it.

This book is so freaking good. It has so much depth it’s not rainbows and butterflies I love that throughout the books you can see the characters develop themselves. Especially Dee all I could think was wow this is no longer first book Dee, as I kept reading I fell in love with daemon sorry if I misspelled by the way, I’ll dream of you even though you love Katy insert sad face, I love these books finished the serious I’m a week yeay covid jk

I Can’t Believe I Never Saw This Sooner

This book SUCKED me in. It wasn’t your normal “vampire next door” ridiculous teen romance novel. The character development in this is phenomenal. You see how the characters change and morph each other into almost completely different people. It shows how someone can alter the course of your future and bring out sides of you that you didn’t know existed. Someone hard and withdrawn isn’t always who you think they are. Someone who has experienced trauma or death isn’t the same as others and its a touching example of how you can connect with someone who has experienced sadness or loss like you have. The supernatural aspect of it is alluring, yes, but its Daemon and Katy that make the book what it is. Katy’s character is so much more different than “normal” teen supernatural novels. She’s snarky, honest, kind and even vulgar at times. She has a voice. She isn’t a damsel in distress. Shes strong minded and willful and i admire the author for allowing her to blossom as the main character should. Daemon is troubled and lost and so overcome with the stress of being the protector that he cannot be himself. *spoiler* When he let Katy in about Dawson and shared with her things that he probably hadn’t talked about with anyone, at least for a while, we as readers can all relate to that. He needed someone to talk to. We can’t all be strong all the time. Sometimes its easier to talk with someone who is more of a stranger than someone we are really close to. In closing, the author did a wonderful job with this book. Im going to buy the second one immediately. Ive played both on Chapters but when I found there were more books in the series I needed to read them all. Off to Onyx!

This was an enjoyable beginning to the series. I found the characters easy to like. The premise was unique & interesting with some events a little difficult to imagine at times. Reading the pet name “kitten” for the heroine got tiresome but all in all I will read book #2.

I really enjoyed this book! At first, I wasn't pulled into the story right away. I thought Katy and Daemon's relationship was super annoying. But somewhere in the middle of the book, when all the action started, I was pulled in and couldn't stop reading. The characters grew on me, and now I'm really itching to buy the next book in series, stay up, and read it!

An Enjoyable 4/5

This story starts out with Katy. She’s a teenager, a book blogger, and has just moved to a small secluded town. There, she comes across her neighbors, Dee and her twin brother Daemon. Dee and Katy become fast friends, but Daemon has some animosity towards Katy that she doesn’t quite understand. She hasn’t done anything to deserve his immediate contempt, but he’s still rude to her every time they talk. However, Katy doesn’t know everything about the next door twins, and the secret she uncovers about them might lead to immense danger, and also a possible romance with her new best friend’s jerk of a brother, Daemon (oooooh ahhhhhh). So. If you're fond of YA literature, you must've read Twilight. Or at least seen the movies (though how can you compare the books and the movies, COME ON !?) If you have, this book is going to be a trip down memory lane for sure. The amount of Twilight nostalgia I felt while reading this book was unpredictable. Of course I'd heard about the similarities between this book series and Twilight before reading it, but the amount of connections that exist are wild. That being said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with these similarities. In fact, I enjoyed this book a ton because of them. Obsidian was fast paced and gripping, and each chapter ended in a way where I wanted to keep on reading. And there was a sarcastic protagonist, something Twilight lacks with Bella, and a complex (AND HOT) love interest, who maintains Edward’s charm without blowing everything out of proportion. Unlike Twilight’s main couple who are dependent on each other instantly, the possible relationship here is a lot more natural feeling, which I appreciated a lot. Just, if you're going to read this, don't be surprised that the events and characters follow a similar structure as Twilight does, though they are also very different in terms of the world and specific events that transpire - and it's actually a good thing. Jennifer L. Armentrout has created an amazing world with great characters. Yes some may say that the similarities to Twilight make this book lesser, I’d counter that it makes the book even more enjoyable to read. Especially in a period after you’ve just read another book series and need a filler before your next endeavor. It’s perfect for that. Now, I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just leave it by saying that I loved this book for the same reason I loved Twilight: it transports you to a different world. And I read for the escapism, so I loved the reading experience immensely. Overall, I'd give it a 4/5. Is it the best thing I've read ever? No. But was it entertaining as hell? Yes. And I loved the direction went in at the end. Maybe I'll invest in the rest of the series, I'm not sure yet. But I say go ahead and buy the first book, you won't be disappointed. Happy Reading.

I did not expect to enjoy this book so much. Its such a good story and i like her writing (its like i am reading a fanfiction story from wattpad tbh, in a good way). Her writing isnt that great or amazing. Its just okay. I would recommend this to people who love aliens, actions, romance, and can tolerate jerks! I am looking forward to read the 2nd book soon :)

Ok so I don't usually write reviews for books but I must say this book was extremely good. I absolutely loved the plot. Very original and unique. This is honestly is the first book I have ever read about with aliens and I highly recommend it. The characters were funny and lovable and the relationship between daemon and Katy was very believable. I liked how they acted like two teenagers would act if they secretly liked each. All in all very god read!

So Annoying

Katy is so annoying. She cusses, but can’t catch on to Daemon liking her? She’s immature but also smart? It’s not enjoyable at all because of how stupid the main female character is. I’m really getting tired of these books with docile females that act so clueless. The whole “whoa it’s me” act she has, even until the end, is just miserable and pitiful. She is constantly pushing him away and then playing the victim. Smh sick of it.

This book is so freaking good. It has so much depth it’s not rainbows and butterflies I love that throughout the books you can see the characters develop themselves. I Can’t Believe I Never Saw This Sooner

This book SUCKED me in. It wasn’t your normal “vampire next door” ridiculous teen romance novel. The character development in this is phenomenal. You see how the characters change and morph each other into almost completely different people. It shows how someone can alter the course of your future and bring out sides of you that you didn’t know existed. Someone hard and withdrawn isn’t always who you think they are. Someone who has experienced trauma or death isn’t the same as others and its a touching example of how you can connect with someone who has experienced sadness or loss like you have. The supernatural aspect of it is alluring, yes, but its Daemon and Katy that make the book what it is. Katy’s character is so much more different than “normal” teen supernatural novels. She’s snarky, honest, kind and even vulgar at times. She has a voice. She isn’t a damsel in distress. Shes strong minded and willful and i admire the author for allowing her to blossom as the main character should. Daemon is troubled and lost and so overcome with the stress of being the protector that he cannot be himself. *spoiler* When he let Katy in about Dawson and shared with her things that he probably hadn’t talked about with anyone, at least for a while, we as readers can all relate to that. He needed someone to talk to. We can’t all be strong all the time. Sometimes its easier to talk with someone who is more of a stranger than someone we are really close to. In closing, the author did a wonderful job with this book. Im going to buy the second one immediately. Ive played both on Chapters but when I found there were more books in the series I needed to read them all. Off to Onyx!

This was an enjoyable beginning to the series. I found the characters easy to like. The premise was unique & interesting with some events a little difficult to imagine at times. Reading the pet name “kitten” for the heroine got tiresome but all in all I will read book #2.

I really enjoyed this book! At first, I wasn't pulled into the story right away. I thought Katy and Daemon's relationship was super annoying. But somewhere in the middle of the book, when all the action started, I was pulled in and couldn't stop reading. This story starts out with Katy. She’s a teenager, a book blogger, and has just moved to a small secluded town. There, she comes across her neighbors, Dee and her twin brother Daemon. Dee and Katy become fast friends, but Daemon has some animosity towards Katy that she doesn’t quite understand. She hasn’t done anything to deserve his immediate contempt, but he’s still rude to her every time they talk. However, Katy doesn’t know everything about the next door twins, and the secret she uncovers about them might lead to immense danger, and also a possible romance with her new best friend’s jerk of a brother, Daemon (oooooh ahhhhhh). So. If you're fond of YA literature, you must've read Twilight. Or at least seen the movies (though how can you compare the books and the movies, COME ON !?) If you have, this book is going to be a trip down memory lane for sure. The amount of Twilight nostalgia I felt while reading this book was unpredictable. Of course I'd heard about the similarities between this book series and Twilight before reading it, but the amount of connections that exist are wild. That being said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with these similarities. In fact, I enjoyed this book a ton because of them. Obsidian was fast paced and gripping, and each chapter ended in a way where I wanted to keep on reading. And there was a sarcastic protagonist, something Twilight lacks with Bella, and a complex (AND HOT) love interest, who maintains Edward’s charm without blowing everything out of proportion. Unlike Twilight’s main couple who are dependent on each other instantly, the possible relationship here is a lot more natural feeling, which I appreciated a lot. Just, if you're going to read this, don't be surprised that the events and characters follow a similar structure as Twilight does, though they are also very different in terms of the world and specific events that transpire - and it's actually a good thing. Jennifer L. Armentrout has created an amazing world with great characters. Yes some may say that the similarities to Twilight make this book lesser, I’d counter that it makes the book even more enjoyable to read. Especially in a period after you’ve just read another book series and need a filler before your next endeavor. It’s perfect for that. Now, I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just leave it by saying that I loved this book for the same reason I loved Twilight: it transports you to a different world. And I read for the escapism, so I loved the reading experience immensely. Overall, I'd give it a 4/5. Is it the best thing I've read ever? No. But was it entertaining as hell? Yes. And I loved the direction went in at the end. Maybe I'll invest in the rest of the series, I'm not sure yet. But I say go ahead and buy the first book, you won't be disappointed. Happy Reading.

I did not expect to enjoy this book so much. Its such a good story and i like her writing (its like i am reading a fanfiction story from wattpad tbh, in a good way). Her writing isnt that great or amazing. Its just okay. I would recommend this to people who love aliens, actions, romance, and can tolerate jerks! I am looking forward to read the 2nd book soon :)

Ok so I don't usually write reviews for books but I must say this book was extremely good. I absolutely loved the plot. Very original and unique. This is honestly is the first book I have ever read about with aliens and I highly recommend it. The characters were funny and lovable and the relationship between daemon and Katy was very believable. I liked how they acted like two teenagers would act if they secretly liked each. All in all very god read!
